THE EVOLUTIONARY COUPLE
Catherine Chardin writes of the new cosmic couple. The embodied female holds within her a divine masculine. The embodied male holds within himself a divine feminine. The cosmic coupling begins when the man recognizes the divine masculine (the initiating energy, the logos) in the woman with his receptive feminine. He receives her logos; he encourages and loves her for her power.
This triggers in the evolutionary woman such deep love and gratitude for her partner, that she falls in love with his essential creativity, his feminine side. (Of course these divisions between feminine and masculine are symbolic and not definitive.) She wants to nurture in him that creative essence that may not have come forth in the competitive, combative masculine world. In this evolutionary love affair, she can express her power without aggression, and he can nurture her without fear of emasculation or the need to be a dominator.
My personal story
When Sidney Lanier and I chose to become an evolutionary couple, we opened to all the challenges that the old paradigm had left us.
Sidney had fallen in love with me for my logos, for my power. He heard my voice on tape, and came and found me. We had the same “memes,” the same unlikely set of passions —the evolutionary story, the life of Jesus, the meaning of the United States, our evolution into outer space, and much more. We fell in love and became a couple.
Sidney supported me and my work, but in the process he said he felt “in-substantiated, turning into smoke,” as he put it then, as his own creativity suffered. We were both striving toward wholeness, and we began to cocreate a shared vision of the new kind of relationship we wanted between us, that might truly bring forth an evolutionary couple.
In this vision we imagined ourselves as Coequal Cocreators.
Our Vision
Together Sidney and I are holding a vision of the new couple, a new Adam and a new Eve whose purpose is not procreation, but cocreation. We see each of the individuals becoming whole, that is, uniting within themselves their own masculine and feminine, and then joining together whole being with whole being as coequal cocreators.
This vision has kept our attraction alive and guided us through the trials and joys of learning to become a coequal cocreative couple. It hasn't been easy, but the path holds great promise, joy, and freedom!
[In the future we will share more of our experiences, and invite other couples working toward this new model to share their experiences as well.]
